Toronto signs on to online calculator Toronto Sun: Sarah Green

It is an online weapon in the fight against climate change.

Zerofootprint Toronto, a new website launched yesterday, will allow residents, businesses, neighbourhoods, hospitals, even schools to measure their own carbon footprints and find ways to lower their contributions to greenhouse gas emissions.

The online calculator looks at travel, households and food consumption to come up with the tonnes of carbon dioxide the user emits in a year.

“I actually hear from people they want to help, they want to participate, they’re glad the city is a world leader, but they don’t know what to do and they don’t know how to start,” Mayor David Miller said. “I encourage everyone to take action on climate change now.”
