The Community Stewardship Program involves volunteers in on-going maintenance and monitoring activities at a restoration site of their choice.
The stewardship program is structured so that participants work in a team that is guided by an experienced volunteer (team leader). Each team visits their site approximately twice a month throughout the spring and summer, and once or twice in the fall. An experienced staff person trains each team to do a number of specific duties related to their site.
Teams are involved in activities such as weeding invasive non-native plant species, watering planted vegetation, collecting litter, maintaining bird boxes, building habitat brush bundles, and monitoring specific conditions of the site. Monitoring activities may include the monitoring of water chemistry, water levels, and benthic invertebrates, as well as surveys of birds, and vegetation.
