High Sierra Permaculture (HSP) weaves indigenous wisdom and permaculture principles into experiential learning opportunities. HSP uses a range of hands-on, Earth-centered programs to empower participants to create and maintain economically, ecologically, and culturally sustainable systems.
Permaculture is a design system and a system of techniques using ecology as the basis for designing integrated systems of food production, housing, appropriate technology, community development and more. Permaculture is built upon a set of ethics and principles of caring for all living beings and the earth while interacting with the environment in mutually beneficial ways. These ethics and principals are rooted in careful observations of natural patterns and can be applied to all climates and a wide variety of cultures from indigenous to technological and can be applied to urban, suburban, rural, arid and watershed scales.
