The World Dharma Online Institute

Location: CA

Through the imaginative use of the Internet and other interactive technologies, The World Dharma Online Institute, was conceived to offer creative, non-sectarian courses and services for the purpose of evolving a global culture of conscience – lovers of freedom dedicated to decency, and the emergence of a compassionate, peaceful world citizenship, rooted in dignity, universal human rights, and environmental sanity.

Alan Clements, the founder of World Dharma, was the first American to ordain as a Buddhist monk in Burma where he lived in monastic silence for nearly a decade, going on to become a human rights activist, a print and photo journalist documenting genocide and war, and a revolutionary political, spiritual satirist known for his “comedy that ignites conscience.” Alan has been described in the media as a cross between “Lenny Bruce, Noam Chomsky, and a hyper-spiritual Terrence McKenna.” He is the author of a number of books including, “The Voice of Hope” – Conversations with Burma’s incarcerated Nobel Peace Laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi, and the leader of her country’s nonviolent revolution for freedom; and “Instinct for Freedom – Finding Liberation Through Living.”

Alan’s not-for-profit organization, World Dharma, provides a unique forum for exploration, learning and networking opportunities, making the connection between understanding and courage, furthering the ultimate vision of saving each other and our world.

“By putting our heads and hearts together, and turning up the fire of discovery, we can change the world.” ~ Alan Clements
