IGER is known throughout the world for its scientific contribution to forage-related plant breeding, plant biology and genetics, animal science and nutrition, organic dairying, soil science and agro-ecology.
IGER’s mission is to determine viable options for grassland-dominated landscapes and land use systems that lead to a sustainable rural economy, a multi-functional healthy environment, and a safe and high quality food chain. This will be achieved by undertaking integrated research aimed at better understanding the interactions between plants, soil, microbes, livestock, food, the environment and humans.
The Institute has a strong commitment to communicate their research effectively to beneficiaries and policy makers, to generate direct economic benefit with minimal environmental impact as a result and to apply its skills, both alone and with partners, to generate income in appropriate areas that lie outside its core activities.
