Toronto Animal Rights Society (TARS) potlucks are one of the best ways to meet like minded people, socialize, and participate in a free exchange of ideas. Most potlucks are attended by more than 50 people, and some have been attended by as many as 100 people. Potlucks provide a fantastic opportunity to taste a variety of delicious entrees and desserts, try new foods, and exchange recipes. TARS is a welcoming and inclusive community for everyone. Invite your friends to expose them to new ideas and great food.

At this potluck, the documentary Modern Meat will be shown.

“This new PBS documentary tells the remarkable tale of how meat is made, with a focus on why people die from eating contaminated meat. This documentary is better in content than the movie Fast Food Nation. It brings us unique new footage of meat processing plants, including some new technologies, and also some fascinating facts. Did you know that one burger may have as many as 1,000 cows in it? Modern technology and commercial drive is pushing food production into a new realm. There are still people who believe that most meat comes from farms, but this documentary shows that this is not the case. The story of modern meat production is not new to animal rights advocates, but telling the story in the most effective way possible is something that we should be continually invested in. This documentary is an important watch for all animal rights activists, both for it’s useful facts, and for generating ideas on how to introduce animal rights into the discussion of food safety. It runs from 7:00 p.m. to 7:55 p.m., followed by group discussion.”
