The Festival will present some 100 documentary, feature, animated, archival, experimental and children’s films selected to provide fresh perspectives on environmental issues affecting our planet.

2007 Festival Highlights to Date:

  • George Butler mini-retrospective with George Butler in attendance at the AFI Silver Theatre, including The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition, In the Blood and his new film in progress, The Lord God Bird about the Ivory-billed Woodpecker.
  • Addicted to Oil: Thomas L. Friedman Reporting, including a panel discussion with Thomas Friedman, investigating the relationship between America ’s energy consumption, oil prices and geopolitical power, with the Natural Resources Defense Council and Conservation International.
  • An Afternoon with Dr. David Suzuki, distinguished Canadian scientist, environmentalist, broadcaster and author, at the National Museum of Natural History.
  • Cracking the Ocean Code join genome pioneer Dr. J. Craig Venter as he scours the world’s oceans for genetic secrets to help solve the planet’s urgent climate and energy challenges, at the National Museum of Natural History.
  • A biographical film-in-progress on eminent naturalist Dr. E. O. Wilson and his work on biodiversity, socio-biology and consilience with Dr. Wilson in attendance at the National Geographic Society.
  • Manufactured Landscapes: celebrated Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky explores the aesthetic, social and spiritual dimensions of industrialization and globalization at the National Gallery of Art.
