The Schofields are one of the Soil Association’s longest-established horticulture producers and in addition to growing a wide range of produce for their box scheme they are also experienced at raising horticultural transplants for growing in the field. As there is currently no commercial Scottish source of transplants, producers may like to consider growing their own. This ‘learning tour’ will allow you to see how it is done and will cover everything from blocks to bare roots along with an opportunity to see the transplants growing, and of course to look around the rest of the site. The day will also include a discussion on the principles of the horticulture standards, particularly how to maintain fertility in intensive horticultural systems and polytunnels. Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
