This is session 2 of a six week lecture series aimed to demystify the issue of climate change, prepare for its implications and suggest possible responses in a number of different areas. This course is designed to raise awareness of how individuals can help combat climate change and can be taken as a series of six lectures or as individual sessions. Brendan McWilliams and Patrick Finnigan will be speaking at this session.
Brendan McWilliams is a meteorologist, and for the past 18 years has written the daily Weather Eye column in The Irish Times. He is a graduate of UCC and a former Deputy Director of Met Éireann. In the early 1990s he served as Director of the Programme of Expert Studies on Climate Change on behalf of the Department of the Environment, and from 1998-2000 he was a Member of EU Fifth Framework Programme External Advisory Group on Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity.
Patrick Finnigan is the coordinator of GRIAN, Greenhouse Ireland Action Network. GRIAN an action-based network established to support Irish public action on climate and climate change, with a specific mission to concentrate on providing solutions as well as creating awareness of the threats.
