Starts: Monday October 06, 2008

Schedule: Runs 2 days starting on 2008-10-06

Organizer: Electric Utility Consultants Inc.

Despite continuing uncertainty about the exact nature of greenhouse gas (GHG) and carbon regulations, and the accompanying enforcement mechanisms, many utilities are moving forward in developing GHG accounting systems and management strategies. For these utilities, the transition from the current situation to a carbon constrained market will be much more efficient and cost-effective. This conference will analyze: • The evolution of GHG policies, regulatory mechansisms, and carbon markets, and what they mean for utilities • The essential components of effective GHG accounting and management systems, and how to effectively integrate these systems into your company’s business practices • How utilities can position themselves to take full advantage of the financial benefits of CO2 credits, carbon offsets, and emissions trading • Management strategies, accounting practices, and practical programs adopted by leading investor-owned utilities, unregulated power providers, and municipal utilities to ensure that their companies are optimally positioned for a dynamic political, regulatory, and economic future • The integration of policy, analytic, resource, and technology options into effective GHG reduction and management strategies

The second day will consist of two interactive sessions. Session One — Participants will go through the process of creating a GHG inventory, accounting, and reporting system. Session Two — Strategies for working with regulators, customers, and other important stakeholders to develop collaborative strategies for reducing GHG emissions.
