In January 2006 Ashton Hayes, a small Cheshire village (approximately 1000 in population), set out on its journey to become the first small community in England to achieve carbon neutral status. This ground breaking project has already inspired many other communities to follow suit and also influenced Chester City Council’s decision to provide a personal carbon reduction pathway to each of its residents.
If you would like to find out more about how your community could take up the carbon neutral challenge then this grass roots conference being held at the University of Chester in 2007 is the place to start. The first of its kind in the UK, this conference is all about how ordinary people and communities can be leaders in the revolution the world now needs to combat the threat posed by climate change.
